In 2008, several Nebraska organizations recognized the need for a non-partisan organization dedicated to fiscal research and analysis. Encouraged by a feasibility study revealing broad support from advocacy groups, policy makers and educators, a diverse group of funders from across the state provided the start up funds needed to make OpenSky Policy Institute a reality.

OpenSky Policy Institute incorporated as a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization in Nebraska, with our Board of Directors legally appointed in September 2011, and our founding Executive Director, Renee Fry, starting in October 2011.

OpenSky’s mission is to improve opportunities for every Nebraskan by providing impartial and precise research, analysis, education and leadership.
